The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced today that it would fund seven local journalism centers, resulting in the creation of 50 professional positions, mostly for journalists.

“The centers will form teams of multimedia journalists, who will focus on issues of particular relevance to each region; their in-depth reports will be presented regionally and nationally via digital platforms, community engagement programs and radio and television broadcasts,” the CPB said in a release. The CPB administers federal funds for public broadcasting.

Intel Corporation has announced an alliance with other high tech companies including Dell to increase the hiring of new college graduates in the tech field this year. Dell is one of Intel’s top customers. Sixty students at each of four schools -- Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men, Western International High School, Detroit International Academy for Women and Henry Ford High School -- are to get 11 weeks of job-readiness training during the school day and 10 high school credits. They will then be placed in a job, a paid or unpaid internship, or a community service position with one of the companies, said John Cromer, project manager.
